After crossing the heather-clad expanse of Urra the trail meets the disused Rosedale Ironstone Railway at Bloworth Crossing – more fabulous names. Four miles of walking along the cinder-lined track takes you past Farndale Moor to Blakey. Sweeping right and left in long, soft curves and with barely a gradient, this is easy terrain, kind on the feet and legs.

Blakey Ridge is there in the distance as you round yet another bend. The Lion Inn stands alone on the ridge, the only building for miles around. It’s like you’re arriving at the furthest frontier, the last outpost in some distant part of the Wild West……

….then you find the car park is full of cars!
